Why This Guide Exists

Main Street NMB is breakfast holy ground. Hoskins Restaurant has been there since 1948 — biscuits and gravy, pimento cheese grits, and a line out the door that moves faster than it looks. Golden Griddle (since 1975) and Dino's House of Pancakes (30+ years) round out the old guard, and Sam's Place is the one where the cooks work right out in the open. Up in Cherry Grove, The Shack on Sea Mountain Highway is the throwback — Shack Special in the morning, Calabash seafood later. And Boulineau's deserves its own paragraph: it's a cafeteria breakfast inside a family grocery store that's basically the unofficial capitol of Cherry Grove. Breakfast By The Sea is the cheap beachfront hidden gem locals don't love us mentioning. Bagel people: Krave Bagel Bistro hand-rolls and boils theirs the real way, and Bagel Factory is the Grand Strand's homegrown answer to Brooklyn.

South of the bypass, Blueberry's Grill does sweet potato pancakes and a grilled blueberry muffin that sounds wrong and tastes right. Croissants Bistro & Bakery (founded 1995 by chef Heidi Vukov) is the chef-driven option on the north end — shrimp and grits, pastries, serious brunch. Drift at Grande Dunes does duck benedict and lobster omelet if you want to spend real money. Johnny D's Waffles and Benedicts has 2,200+ TripAdvisor reviews for a reason — nine different benedicts and a corned beef hash that's the real thing. Mammy's Kitchen has been downtown since 1953. Joe's Diner by the Airport is the no-frills local pick near the south end. And if you're in Pawleys, the Litchfield Restaurant started as a highway-crew trailer in 1968 and is still owner-run — fish and grits, pork chop biscuit, Ultimate Breakfast Burrito.
