Myrtle Beach FAQ — Common Questions Answered

When is the best time to visit Myrtle Beach?

Late April through May and September through October. You get warm weather, lower prices, and fewer crowds. Peak summer (June-August) is the most crowded and expensive.

Is Myrtle Beach safe?

Generally yes. Use common sense — lock your car, don't leave valuables on the beach, stay aware at night. The Boardwalk area can get rowdy late at night during peak summer.

What's the water temperature?

Check our live beach conditions page for current water temperature, rip current risk, and UV index updated from NOAA data.

Where should I eat?

Skip the chains on Restaurant Row. Check our Seafood Directory, Breakfast Guide, and Restaurant Directory for locally owned spots.

Where should I stay?

What are the beach rules?

No glass on the beach. In Myrtle Beach, canopies and tents must be removed by 7 PM. From Memorial Day through the day after Labor Day, canopies and tents are not allowed on the beach — umbrellas only, no more than 7.5 feet in diameter, placed in line with or behind the established umbrella line; 4×3×3-foot infant tents are excepted. Off-season tents may be up to 12×12 feet. City dog-beach restrictions run May 1 through Labor Day; after Labor Day through April 30, dogs may be on the beach any time with a leash and cleanup.

Do I need a fishing license?

Yes for saltwater fishing from shore or a private boat. Fishing from a licensed pier or charter does not require your own license. See our Fishing Guide for details.

Is there Uber/Lyft in Myrtle Beach?

Yes, both operate in the area. Wait times can be long during peak summer evenings. Golf carts are legal on most side streets (not Ocean Blvd or Kings Hwy).
